I am a consultant ophthalmic surgeon with a special clinical interest in cataract and glaucoma surgery. I have been a consultant since 1996 with Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. I qualified in 1985 after undertaking my general medical training at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London. I then completed my ophthalmic training at Southampton Eye Hospital, the Western Ophthalmic Hospital London (St Mary's Hospital) and the Birmingham Eye Hospital . I also worked at Moorfields Eye Hospital where I undertook research into the early detection of glaucoma and completed my fellowship training in glaucoma and gained my MD.
I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Having performed in the region of 10,000 cataract procedures I have a wealth of surgical experience and expertise in this field including the use of multifocal lenses for spectacle independence and toric lenses for the treatment of astigmatism (see section on cataract surgery for more detail). I also have a wide experience of more complex cataract cases including trauma and glaucoma.
I am a fellowship trained specialist in glaucoma. I keep up to date with the latest trends in diagnosis and management of this very common condition. I have over 20 years experience in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma both simple and complex cases and in combined surgery for cataract with glaucoma. I am lead clinician for glaucoma in Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital trust.
